First Chance to Audition for Sound of Music Today

The first casting sessions for the Sound of Music and the 2010 Drama Camp will be held today at the PCHS Auditorium.  Kids interested in participating in both the musical and drama camp may audition for both at the same time.

Youth auditions will be held from 5:00-6:30 PM.  Parents should bring their child’s completed Camp form and/or Sound of Music audition form with them to the casting session.  Older children who wish to be Camp Counselors should complete the Camp Counselor form and return it by May 31st.

Adults wishing to participate in the Sound of Music should bring their completed Sound of Music audition form with them to the casting session.  The session starts at 7:00 PM and runs until 8:30 PM.

Sound of Music & Drama Camp Auditions This Week

The Gibson County Theatre Company will be hosting auditions for Youth Drama Camp and Sound of Music roles on Thursday May 20th from 5:00-6:30 PM and Saturday May 22nd from 9:00-10:30 AM at the Princeton Community High School Auditorium.  Kids interested in Drama Camp should bring their signed Camp Participant Form.  All campers must be registered by May 31st, 2010.  Children interested in roles in the Sound of Music production should bring their signed Musical Audition Form.

Auditions for adult roles in the Sound of Music will be held following youth auditions on May 22nd from 7:00-8:30 PM and May 22nd from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM at the Princeton Community High School Auditorium.  Please bring a completed copy of the Musical Audition Form with you.

You do not have to make an appointment to audition.  Auditions are open to the public.  The GCTC asks that you arrive on time to the session of your choosing.  Please be prepared to turn in your audition forms at the beginning of the casting session.  You will also be asked to sing a one-two minute song of your choice.   You may either sing a cappella or bring your own cassette/CD accompaniment.

2010 – Sound of Music

Sound of MusicThe Sound of Music is a musical with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. It is based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. Many songs from the musical have become standards, including the title song “The Sound of Music”, “Edelweiss”, “My Favorite Things”, “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” and “Do-Re-Mi”.

The original Broadway production, starring Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel, opened in November 1959, and the show has enjoyed numerous productions and revivals since then. It has also been made into an Academy Award-winning 1965 film musical starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. The Sound of Music was the final musical written by Rodgers and Hammerstein; Hammerstein died of cancer nine months after the Broadway premiere.

Leon Stone

Leon StoneLeon has served three years as Treasurer for GCTC, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors. He is a past President of Kiwanis, past Treasurer for the Gibson County Horticultural and Agricultural Society, and currently serves on the board for the Gibson County Chamber of Commerce. He was also Scoutmaster for Troop 232 for over twenty-five years.

Leon is an attorney and owner and President of Broadway Title, Inc. He and his wife Jackie reside in Princeton and have three sons and seven grandchildren.

Leon was privileged to be allowed to do a walk-on for the production of M*A*S*H. and is honored to serve on the board of GCTC.

Jessie Dyer

Ms. Dyer studied theatre at Indiana State University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree while learning about collaboration and determination. She went on to work at the Indiana Repertory Theatre in both the costume shop and ticket office.

Her other theatre activities have included work all over Indiana in stage and film as Costume/Hair/Makeup Designer, Board Member, Actor, Director, Improv Artist, Voice-Over Actor, pushing a broom, swinging a hammer and much more!

Jessie is a proud homeowner in Princeton and works for Onsite OHS as a recruiting specialist. In her free time she plays with her dogs, Lilly and Jasper and cat, Yummy and is one of the founding members of Pants Up Players: Princeton Indiana’s premiere improv troupe!

Jessie was in the GCTC productions Chicago, Dracula and The Sound of Music and has previously directed The One That Got Away, and will be directing The Twelve Daze of Christmas this December. She currently serves as the Secretary and head of the Communications Committee for GCTC.

Fred Hadley

Fred has served on the GCTC board for three years.  He currently serves as the President and Finance Director, heading the Finance Committee .  Fred lives with wife Krista near Hazleton and they are both active in many of GCTC’s stage productions.  Fred has served as a producer, set/stage manager, and has appeared on stage in four GCTC productions.  Fred recently retired from his position as owner and President of Multi-Resource Management, a natural resource consulting firm.  He holds a BS from Purdue and an MFS from Yale.

Stacy Hurt

Stacy Hurt is a founding member of the GCTC and has been very active within the group since its inception in 2003. She is currently serving as the group’s Artistic Director. Stacy also founded the Gibson County Summer Musical, an organization geared at furthering theatre opportunities for middle and high school students in Gibson County, in 2006. She is a teacher at Princeton Community High School where she is one of the Drama Directors and the International Thespian Society Sponsor. Stacy lives in Princeton with her husband Wes, and their children Clarke, Claire, Cole, and Cade.
